But does it really pose a threat to writers and book publishers, or does it instead provide a welcome new opportunity to do things differently? Dr Tom Christie, director of Extremis Publishing, will be talking about the many different ways that AI systems are helping authors and publishers alike, providing assistance and even encouragement to the writing world. From restoring historical photographs to suggesting textual changes to prose, poetry, and drama, he will explore some of the latest applications of AI and the beneficial ways in which writers can harness these systems for positive ends, while also addressing the potential pitfalls wherever they exist.
Dr Tom Christie is the founding director of Extremis Publishing Ltd., and the author of twenty books with publishing houses on both sides of the Atlantic. His work has been exhibited at international locations including Paris and Rio de Janeiro, and he and his books have featured in publications around the world including The Smithsonian Magazine, Vice, Books from Scotland, Le Temps, The Digital Bits, Dwell, The Media Education Journal, History Scotland and Retro Gamer. He has written extensively on topics including popular culture, film history, modern literature, and digital humanities. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and an associate lecturer in Publishing at Forth Valley College.
