Taking a rights-based approach to fiction resource
This resource, written in collaboration with Scotdec(this link will open in a new window), supports teachers to explore children's rights through fiction in the classroom.
Each activity has ideas to support teaching:
- About children's rights – teaching children what their rights are according to the UNCRC
- Through children's rights – allowing children to experience their rights through the ethos and environment of the classroom
- For children's rights – encouraging children to think about how they can advocate for their, and others', rights
There is a resource available for Early, First and Second Level. You will also find a resource containing all three levels in one place for use in composite classes.
Where possible, we have coded the learning activities with Curriculum for Excellence's Experiences and Outcomes – however, some are more focused on class ethos or approach.
For more books you can link to the UNCRC, see our book list of picture books which explore children's rights.
