Readers of Scotland
Sign up to take part in Readers of Scotland, a research project aimed at exploring readers' experiences and helping more people access all the benefits that reading has to offer.

We know that reading has many benefits – from supporting wellbeing and developing empathy(this link will open in a new window), to tackling poverty. Readers across Scotland have told us:
- 'I cannot imagine living a life without books.'
- 'I think it's essential. There's something so wonderful about being delighted by a story, and being lost in a book that you can't wait to get back to is one of the best things there is.'
- 'As a child, reading showed me that my future wasn't as dark as I feared.'
We want to learn more about readers' experiences, to help us support people across Scotland to find the books they'll love and access all the benefits that reading has to offer.
Please share your experiences with us by joining our new Readers of Scotland research project.

What does being part of Readers of Scotland involve?
- When you register to join Readers of Scotland, you will be asked to complete a 'getting to know you' survey – this will involve telling us about your reading habits and preferences, and yourself. This will help us to see who is represented on the project.
- Four times each year we will send you a survey to complete. The survey will have a number of set questions which will be the same each time, allowing us to see how things change. Each survey will also have some additional questions to help us learn more about different themes over time.
- Members can opt to enter a prize draw each time you complete a survey to win everyone's favourite gift. . . National Book Tokens!
- The research will be most useful if members of the project complete every survey so we can see how things change over time. To thank you for your time and insight, members who complete all four surveys in a year will receive a wee exclusive thank you gift in December.
- We will send you and your fellow members of Readers of Scotland an exclusive newsletter, sharing insights from the research and other bookish news and opportunities you may be interested in.
Please note that you must be aged 13 or over to take part in Readers of Scotland.
What kind of readers are you interested in?
It's important to us that we hear from all types of readers about all types of reading! This will help us learn how best to support everyone in Scotland to develop the love of reading that we know is so beneficial.
We at Scottish Book Trust firmly believe that all reading is good reading and so we're keen to hear from people whatever genres and formats they enjoy – fiction, non-fiction, poetry, graphic novels, ebooks, audiobooks and all the other great ways you can get lost in a story.
Whilst prolific readers are certainly welcome, you do not need to be one to join. Perhaps you read less than you used to due to other priorities, or maybe your motivation for reading has always waxed and waned.
Whatever, whenever and however you read, if you enjoy reading, are aged 13 or over and would like to take part we would love to hear from you.
