Some families experience more barriers and challenges than others in accessing universal resources. The aim of the Bookbug at Home kits is to enhance the support given to these families by Bookbug for the Home practitioners to share stories, songs and rhymes together.
Gifting a kit to a family will help those who would most benefit from resources to support them in engaging with stories, songs and rhymes in between visits, and help maintain that engagement after visits have ended.
Bookbug at Home kits have been used to support families who are facing a broad range of challenges including poverty, social isolation, mental health, low adult literacy, drug and alcohol abuse, English as an additional language or additional support needs.
Sharing books with vulnerable families who have children in their early years helps support literacy and numeracy giving the children a start before going to school. Some of these families don't have books, some parents never learned to read, we want to break that cycle.
All items in the kit have been chosen to help with the development of speech, communication and language, and strengthen bonds and relationships between parent/carers and the infant.
