Trip of a lifetime

Author: Meg Keir
Year: Adventure

The vehicle of my escape was the quali',
The driving force envy,
Of comfort, confidence and liberal minds,
Another world to me fenced in by poor respectability.
The expedition required focus
And singleminded persistence,
Those left behind not grieved for
Till later.
New friendships fed my determination.
Drove me on.
Approaching my destination
I observed the local customs
And donned the native garb tho'
Still lacked some essential trimmings.
Fortunately, speaking the language came naturally,
Thinking in it
Another matter
But now in my adopted country
I feel at home, have fitted in,
The journey worthwhile when I see
My children easy
In their comfort, confidence and liberal minds.
