The Turning Point
Paisley Creative Writing Group
Jenny, Julia, Margaret, Nathalie, Lesley Macniven
Did it happen in one day,
Or a lifetime’s work?
To decide to circle the hole
And not fall in... again,
Into the gaps left by others’ hollow words,
Leaving those voices behind.
Fill up the gaps with words
That could only be our own,
Until they pave the road ahead.
To the turning point,
Signalling how to be:
Free,
Empowered,
Forthright.
Our audible purpose and confidence
Drowns out the echo of negative thoughts
That breached once porous boundaries
Between inner and outer.
Stay true to yourself.
Armed with a shield,
Encased in a bell jar,
Keep them at bay.
Reposition your faith and realise
Whose opinion matters.
Peel off the heavy layers
Show the world the new you,
Though not ‘new’, but long buried.
Thankfully found, just in time,
The reconnection to our innocence.
Pick up the road where you left it.
Rejoin the conversation.
Listen, support, form bonds:
Solid,
Intimate,
Honest.
To protect ourselves from falling in... again.
