I hope this virus goes away
But there are memories that I hope will stay
Kindness because it’s good and right
Not for follows, retweets or Facebook likes
Heroes like Joe Wicks and Captain Tom
Key workers battling hard and long
Time to spend, with loved ones at home
Getting to see your children develop and grow
From adversity comes opportunity
An appreciation of what we have, and for those we cannot see
2 metres apart but never so close
We will never forget those who are ill or we lost
But is this a disaster from which we will never recover?
Or an opportunity to really appreciate each other
The world is such a wondrous place
But we’re not rats, and it isn’t a race
So spend a minute, stop and stare
You can go so far when you can go nowhere
And when the rainbow windows eventually fade
Remember this time, when we laughed and played
When we clapped in the streets and talked to those near us
Not to computers and phones and social media
I hope we don’t return to greed and plenty
And remember the virus of 2020
