A Life of Small Pieces

When I was a child, I thought

Youth was a state, never-changing

Happiness seemed reachable

Sweet dreams, holidays

French perfume

Ice cream

Swimming in a chocolate river

As we dive into reality

Hopes melt

A life of small pieces

A colourful mosaic

Immersed in the mundane

Duties – bosses – alarm clocks

We might fall in love

We might have a glass of wine

With an old friend

My goal

My son

His future

Each moment a new chapter

The canvas lifting on

A new painting of life

And now – that youth state has

Transformed to old age

I hope we can find our happiness

I hope we can

Get along.

I hope.
