A Mother’s Hope

Author: Anne-Margaret Anderson
Year: Hope

I hope one day I’ll be a mum

To carefree children playing in the sun.

I hope one day to see them grow

And race them down mountains in the morning snow.

I hope one day they’ll swim in the sea

And be truly happy at being with me.

I hope one day they’ll be content

And have no worries at paying their rent.

I hope each day to see them happy

This brood of mine, my laddies, my lassie.

Hopes that are simple yet mean the most,

A quiet fulfilled life with no desire to boast.

These hopes arrived when I found out

That being a mum was what my future was about.

These hopes bring purpose, a life worth leading,

A reason for being, whether we’re gleaming or screaming.

Dear children, you’re my hope, now and forever,

To gift you my love is my everlasting endeavour.

And I hope one day you’ll say I did well,

With the happiest memories and stories to tell.
