Blue

Author: Claire Urqhart
Year: Hope

On those days when my gloom
is measured in sighs,
my eyes ache to fill
with my mother’s favourite blue.
Cornflowers and dark agate,
the eye of a peacock feather
last season’s borage
frozen in an ice-cube,
her blue glass beads.
The sky on a cloudless day.
I turn my face upwards.
