Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour with Sam Sedgman

Host best-selling author Sam Sedgman at your school!

Joining the Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour in February 2025 is Sam Sedgman, the best-selling author, confirmed nerd and enthusiastic ferroequinologist (he loves trains!) with The Clockwork Conspiracy, a locked-room mystery packed with rooftop chases, hidden clues and mind-bending science. He will also tell us about his new book The Forbidden Atlas, which reveals the secret and hidden corners of Paris.

About the Isaac Turner Investigates books

In The Clockwork Conspiracy, aspiring inventor Isaac Turner lives with his dad, the horologist in charge of Big Ben. But when his father vanishes from the belfry on the night the clocks go back, leaving behind only a smashed pocket watch and a cryptic message, Isaac determines to find him. Hunting a trail of clues through London's landmarks, Isaac uncovers a sinister plot in the gears of government and embarks on a race against time to save his father – and time itself.

In The Forbidden Atlas, Isaac and Hattie have been invited to a high-profile event at the French National Archives in Paris. But as Isaac prepares to make his speech, the lights go out and a single shot is fired.

As they investigate, Isaac and Hattie are pulled into an underground world, searching secret and forgotten places for a stolen letter, a missing sister and a map that will unearth a long-buried secret. . .

About the event

A dynamic blend of fun, interaction, and highly educational – Sam describes his events as STEM by stealth! Sam begins with a book reading, where he introduces the characters and the plot. He then delves into the history of clocks and time, guiding children through different types of clocks, timekeeping methods, and how time zones work. An engaging hands-on activity follows, where children (and teachers!) participate in creating a "human clock." There will be extra special activities linked to the second book in the series, The Forbidden Atlas. The event concludes with Q&A to answer any burning questions from the inquisitive minds of your pupils.
