Patrice Lawrence: What if?
Multi-award-winning children's author Patrice Lawrence takes to the Authors Live stage to share her new, contemporary middle-grade novel People Like Stars. This page-turner explores friendship, fractured families and long-buried secrets and is perfect for readers who love a good mystery.
Patrice speaks on how her identity fuels her writing, how she got to be where she is today, and how the most important question you can ask yourself is "what if?". We are also treated to a wonderful reading from People Like Stars.
If you only do one thing...
We know time is tight, so here is just one activity you can complete with your class before or after watching this broadcast.
Create your own brilliant character! (LIT 2-20a, LIT 2-28a) Patrice asks herself questions to help her create vivid and unique characters. Have a go at inventing your own character by answering Patrice's questions:
- What is your character’s name and is there a story behind their name?
- What does your character like?
- What are they afraid of?
Now try writing a scene or short story from your character’s point of view. Read it to a friend and see how much they learn about your character from your story.
