Bookbug evidence review
An overview of the evidence we use to shape the Bookbug programme

Bookbug is an evidence-informed programme based on a wealth of research that shows the benefits of sharing stories, songs and rhymes with babies and young children.
The evidence review below offers a summary of published research on sharing songs, stories and rhymes in the early years, with a particular focus on the following areas:
- Early language development
- Bonding and attachment
- Parental wellbeing and mental health
The two additional reports focus on specific evidence relating to the benefits of stories, songs and rhymes for:
- Children who need additional support
- Families who are receiving targeted support in their homes
The evidence reviews were prepared by Dr Charlotte Webber.
