Bookbug training
Scottish Book Trust offers a range of funded training options to support professionals, practitioners and volunteers to make sure that stories, songs and rhymes are part of every baby and young child’s life.

Bookbug training courses
Our highly rated training is a blend of practical activities, group discussions and up-to-date research and policy information, with a fun and relaxed approach.
Bookbug training is funded by Scottish Government and Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative and is offered at no cost to the delegate.
There are two different ways of delivering Bookbug: with families and their children in community settings or directly to individual families. Who you will work with will inform which Bookbug training is right for you.
Bookbug Session Leader
Bookbug Session Leader training is for those who plan to deliver Bookbug Sessions (free song, rhyme and story sessions) in libraries or other community venues with groups of children (0–5 years) with their mums, dads or carers.

Bookbug for the Home
This training is for practitioners and volunteers working in the community to support individual families in their homes. Bookbug for the Home can also be used as part of targeted work with small groups. The training will enhance family support work with songs, rhymes and stories.

Baby and Toddler Bags
In this webinar, you'll learn:
- The aims of the Bookbug programme and the contents and purpose of the Bookbug Baby and Toddler Bags

Book Discovery workshops
Calling all parents, carers and Early Years enthusiasts! Join our fun, interactive workshops led by our Early Years Trainers and explore six wonderful picture books together. In 60 minutes, learn creative techniques tо bring books tо life, engage young minds, and build stronger connections through the magic оf stories.
This will be a 60-minute webinar with an optional 15 minutes at the end for discussions and questions.
Bring a favourite book tо share іn small group discussions and leave feeling energised with fresh ideas for sharing stories with little ones!
Perfect for those working with babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and beyond, these workshops are a must for anyone passionate about inspiring a love оf reading іn young children.
Please note: These sessions do not focus on the books in the Bookbug bags.
Each workshop focuses on a different stage of development and will have 60 minutes of content and 15 minutes of discussion in breakout rooms.
