Writing poetry in Scots
Designed to foster confident use and development of language skills, this resource will encourage self-directed learning and self-expression through the writing of poetry in the Scots language. The resource was written by writer and poet Thomas Clark.
The activities are not sequential and can be used in any order. However, as Activity 1 is intended to act as a brief introduction to writing in Scots and to encourage confident usage of Scots in poetry, it forms a useful starting point from which to engage with subsequent activities.
Activities include:
- Oor Scots, Your Scots introduction
- Scots acrostic poetry
- Writing a haiku
- Writing a Burns Stanza
- Storytelling in Scots
You can submit any work your students create inspired by this resource in our Scots Young Writer o the Year(this link will open in a new window) competition. Closing date for the competition is Friday 24 June 2022.
